What a useful quietness test requires
An exact result needs the device setting, distance, room background level, surface, measurement tool and whether the product was in contact with the body or a test fixture. Without those conditions, a decibel number is not comparable.
Research-based shortlist
| Product | Published privacy-related feature | Evidence limit |
|---|---|---|
| Womanizer Premium 2 | Smart Silence activates on contact | No Nudex decibel test yet |
| Satisfyer Pro 2 Generation 2 | Manufacturer describes a whisper mode | Manufacturer claim only |
| Maude Vibe | Compact, simple-control format | No independent measurement yet |
| LELO Sona 2 Cruise | Compact external format | No independent measurement yet |
| Dame Arc | On-device controls | No independent measurement yet |
| We-Vibe Sync 2 | Remote/app control can reduce handling | Connectivity does not prove quietness |
Apartment and shared-space checklist
- Compare the lowest useful setting, not only the maximum.
- Hard surfaces amplify vibration; soft isolation can reduce transmitted sound.
- Contact-activated features reduce idle motor noise but do not guarantee inaudibility.
- Packaging privacy, billing descriptors and app notifications are separate privacy questions.
Airborne noise versus structure-borne vibration
A device can sound quiet in the air but transmit a noticeable buzz through a bedside table, bed frame or wall. A useful test therefore records both the device in hand and the device in a repeatable contact condition. Soft surfaces can reduce transmission, but they should not obstruct ventilation or conflict with the manual.
Why room conditions change the result
Background level, microphone distance, room reflections and nearby fans can change a reading. Comparing a number measured at 10 centimeters in one room with a number measured at one meter in another is misleading. Nudex will publish a numeric Quiet Score only after the same distance, room baseline, device settings and fixture can be repeated across products.
Build a complete privacy stack
Motor sound is only one privacy layer. Check the sender name, outer packaging, card descriptor, delivery notification wording, app lock-screen notifications, Bluetooth device name and whether an account is required. A product with a low motor claim can still expose more information through billing or software.
Quiet-use FAQ
Is a manufacturer “whisper mode” claim useless?
No, but it is a lead to verify, not an independent result. Look for the setting and conditions behind it.
Does contact activation make a product silent?
No. It can prevent idle operation and may reduce accidental noise, but sound during use still depends on intensity, fit and the room.
Should maximum-setting noise decide the ranking?
Not by itself. The lowest setting that meets the user's needs is often more relevant, so a future protocol should record the full usable range.
Nudex Quiet Score status
The Quiet Score protocol is in development. Until repeated measurements are recorded under fixed conditions, this page will not publish a numeric quietness ranking. See how evidence labels work.
Next step
Use the private product finder and select “Very important” for quiet use, then verify the current manufacturer manual and retailer privacy policy.
